In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven, Matthew 5:15-16
Long-term impact of dental training.
Requests to train dental health workers continue to increase around the globe. These asks shine the light on the most important goal of dental training. Sure, it’s about ending suffering. Some come to clinics after suffering years of toothaches. They are grateful when their pain ends.
But training has an even bigger goal.
At the same time dental needs are met, patients learn about Jesus-the one who loves them and paid the price for sin. One-on-one time with patients often leads to lasting life change.
Ten years ago, mPower teams trained dental health workers in Myanmar, a predominantly Buddhist country with a minority of Christians. The country had been closed for some time due to conflict. When it reopened, pastors and evangelists in Myanmar applied for the mPower training, explaining how they would use it to take the gospel to unreached villages in China, Myanmar and neighboring countries.
Some walked days to the training, sleeping on mats at night. They learned about teeth. No one had to teach them how to pray or share the Gospel.
Teams continued to train until the country closed again in 2021. Since then, more than a million people fled to neighboring countries. Many settled in refugee camps along the border with Thailand. As teams from mPower began training in these camps, they learned that pastors and evangelists trained a decade earlier continue to use dental training to share the gospel. They have started many churches and continue to share the Gospel wherever God opens doors.
That is a great, long-term investment.
